Configuring discount incentives

Discount Incentives let you automatically reward customers with discount codes when they leave approved reviews.

To manage incentives, open your store dashboard and go to Reviews > Incentives.

How discount incentives work

When incentives are enabled, Reviewbird can generate a discount code after a qualifying review is approved. The customer then receives a Discount Incentive Email with their code.

Discount codes are only generated for approved reviews. Imported reviews do not receive discount incentives.

Enabling incentives

On the Discount Incentives page, turn on Enable discount incentives for reviews.

If the feature is unavailable, your store may need a plan that includes discount incentives.

Discount Incentives require a Plus plan or higher.

Choosing which reviews qualify

Use When to send discount to choose which approved reviews should receive a discount.

  • Any Review: Sends a discount after any approved review.
  • Only Reviews with Photos/Videos: Sends a discount only when the approved review includes media.

If you choose Only Reviews with Photos/Videos, the review must include at least one photo or video before a discount is created.

Setting the discount

By default, incentives use a generated discount code with these settings:

  • Discount Type: Percentage (%).
  • Discount Percentage: 10.
  • Valid Days: 30.
  • Incentive Message: Get {amount} off your next purchase!

You can change Discount Type to Fixed amount if you want to offer a currency-based discount instead of a percentage discount.

Valid Days controls how long the coupon is valid after it is sent. The value must be at least 1 day and can be up to 365 days.

Using a template coupon

Turn on Use template coupon (clone existing WooCommerce coupon) if you want Reviewbird to copy the settings from an existing coupon instead of creating a simple percentage or fixed-amount discount.

This allows you to offer more complex coupons, such as coupons that apply to a category or include a free gift.

When this option is enabled, enter:

  • Template Coupon Code: The code of the existing coupon to clone.
  • Discount Display Amount: How the discount should appear in emails, such as “$10 off purchases of $100 or more, or “20% OFF ALL T-SHIRTS”, etc.

The display amount is used in customer-facing email text. It does not change the coupon itself.

Customizing the widget message

Incentive Message controls the message customers see in the review widget.

Use {amount} where the discount value should appear. For example:

Get {amount} off your next purchase!

The preview shows how the message will look with the current discount amount. Use Reset to default to return to the default message.

Sending the discount email

After a qualifying review is approved, Reviewbird creates the coupon and schedules the discount email immediately.

To edit that email, click Configure discount email template from the Discount Incentives page, or go to Emails > Email Templates and select Discount.

The Discount Incentive Email includes these sections by default:

  • Show product image
  • Show coupon banner
  • Show expiry info

Saving changes

Click Save settings after updating your incentive settings.

Changes apply to future qualifying reviews. Existing coupons and emails that have already been created are not changed.

How discount incentives affect review syndication

If your’e using Reviewbird to syndicate reviews to Google Merchant Center, you should be aware that incentivized reviews are not included in your feed.

If including reviews in your Google Merchant Feed is important to you, then you should only use discount incentives to incentivize adding photos and videos to reviews – not for every approved reviews.
