When a customer submits a review on your product page directly instead of clicking a link in a review request email, you can add additional confirmation to make sure the person who submitted the review is who they say they are.
These reviews are only sent to verified purchasers, i.e reviews whose email addresses match a purchase for that product. This helps avoid abuse with forged reviews.
Whether you need this additional layer of safety is up to you: these emails are disabled by default
Enabling the review confirmation email
- Open the store you want to update.
- Go to Emails > Email Templates.
- Select the Confirmation tab.
In the Review Confirmation Email section, turn on Enabled.
If the email is disabled, customers will not receive a review confirmation email.
When the email is sent
The review confirmation email can be sent immediately after a customer submits a review when the review is ready to be approved.
The email is sent only when:
- Review Confirmation Email is enabled.
- The review was submitted from the widget.
- The review is from a verified purchase.
- The review did not come from an email campaign.
- The customer has not already been sent a confirmation email for that review.
When the email is sent, the review is marked as Pending Confirmation. It will not be published until the customer clicks the confirmation link.
Customizing the email
You can customize the content of the review confirmation email from the Confirmation tab.
- Subject Line: The subject customers see in their inbox.
- Preheader Text: The short preview text shown after the subject line in many inboxes.
- Email Heading: The main heading inside the email.
- Email Content: The body text of the email. Basic HTML is supported, including bold text, italic text, links, and lists.
- Button Text: The text on the confirmation button.
Default content
By default, the confirmation email uses:
- Subject Line: {{customer_name}}, confirm the review you left for {{product_title}}
- Preheader Text: Confirm it was you who wrote the review.
- Email Heading: Please confirm your review
- Button Text: Confirm my review
Choosing email sections
Use Email Sections to choose what appears in the email.
- Show product image: Displays the product image.
- Show review content: Displays the text of the submitted review.
- Show star rating: Displays the star rating from the review.
All three sections are enabled by default.
Using variables
You can use Available Variables to personalize the email.
- {{customer_name}}: Customer’s first name.
- {{product_title}}: Product name.
- {{product_url}}: Product URL.
- {{review_rating}}: Star rating.
- {{review_text}}: Review text.

Confirming a review
When the customer clicks the confirmation button, the review is confirmed. If the review was Pending Confirmation, it changes to approved and will appear on the product page and in showcases.
