By default, Reviewbird sends emails from an automatically generated email address @reviewbird.com but you can change this to use your own email address.
You can configure Reviewbird to use an email address on your own domain instead. This is good for branding – customers will see an email from your website – and it can help with deliverability and open rates.
Default sender
Before you configure a custom sender, Reviewbird sends emails from a default address like:
You can see your current default sender in Emails > Custom Sender.
Setting up a custom sender
- Open your store dashboard.
- Go to Emails > Custom Sender.
- Enter the Email Address you want customers to see as the sender.
- Optional: enter a Reply-To Address.
- Click Configure sender.
The email address is used as the from address for review emails. If you add a reply-to address, customer replies will go there. If you leave reply-to blank, replies default to the sender address.
Verifying your custom sender
After you configure the sender, Reviewbird will ask you to verify it. Completing either email confirmation or DNS verification activates the sender.
- Email confirmation: confirms that you own or can access the sender inbox.
- DNS records: authenticates your domain and can improve deliverability.
If the sender is not ready yet, the page will show Verification needed. Once it is verified, the page will show Ready to send.
Email confirmation
When you add a sender address, Reviewbird sends a confirmation email via our provider Postmark. The email is sent to the sender address you specified – so this needs to be a real email address. (You can’t use [email protected] addresses)
- Open the inbox for the sender email address.
- Find the confirmation email.
- Follow the confirmation link.
- Return to Emails > Custom Sender.
- Click Refresh status.
If you do not receive the email, click Resend confirmation.

DNS verification
DNS verification is optional once email confirmation is complete, but it is recommended for better deliverability.
The Custom Sender page may show two DNS records:
- DKIM record: a TXT record used to authenticate your sending domain.
- Return-path record: a CNAME record used for email handling and deliverability.
- Go to Emails > Custom Sender.
- Click Show DNS records, if the records are hidden.
- Copy the host and value for each record.
- Add the records with your DNS provider.
- Return to Reviewbird and click Refresh status.
DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to update, but they usually complete within a few minutes to a few hours.
Checking the sender status
Use Refresh status any time after confirming the email address or adding DNS records.
The status area shows:
- From address: the email address customers see as the sender.
- Display name: your store name.
- Reply-to: where customer replies are sent.
- Verification: whether email confirmation or DNS verification is complete.
Sending a test email
After the sender is ready, you can send a test email.
- Go to Emails > Custom Sender.
- Click Send test email.
- Enter the email address that should receive the test.
- Click Send Test Email.
If the test email cannot be sent, make sure the sender has been confirmed or DNS verification has completed.
Disabling custom sender
- Go to Emails > Custom Sender.
- Click Remove sender.
- Confirm by clicking Remove Custom Email.
After removing the custom sender, Reviewbird will send emails from the default Reviewbird address again (more info above!).
