Product groups let related products share published reviews. For example, you can group separate product listings for different colors of the same item. Each product can then show reviews from the other products in the group.
Open Reviewbird in Shopify admin, then go to Settings > Product Groups. The page lists each group's name, product count, and creation date. Automatic groups have an Automatic badge.
The Product Groups feature must be available on your plan. The app shows an upgrade prompt if it is unavailable.
Create a manual group
- Select Create Group.
- Enter a unique Group Name.
- Under Search products to add, search by product name or SKU.
- Select each product you want to include.
- Select Create Group.
Choose products that share a meaningful customer experience. A name such as Classic T-Shirt Colors can help you identify the group later.
A product can belong to only one group. Search results exclude products that already belong to another group. Groups contain whole products; you do not select individual Shopify variants as separate group members.
Create an automatic group
An automatic group follows one Shopify tag, product category, or collection. Reviewbird adds and removes products as the synced catalog changes.
- Open Settings > Product Groups and select Create Group.
- Enter a unique Group Name.
- Under Fill this group automatically, search for a tag, category, or collection.
- Select one result.
- Select Create Group.
Matching products are added in the background. Allow a few minutes for membership changes. If you recently changed a product in Shopify, Reviewbird must also receive the updated catalog information.
An automatic group can use one rule. It cannot also contain manually selected products, and you cannot manually add or remove its members.
The edit page shows up to 50 members of an automatic group. This display limit does not limit the group's total membership.
Understand overlapping groups
Reviewbird does not move a product out of another group to satisfy an automatic rule. The automatic group's edit page shows a warning when matching products already belong to other groups. Expand the warning to inspect the affected products.
When an ungrouped product matches more than one automatic group, the oldest group takes it. Two groups cannot use the same tag, category, or collection. Related parent and child categories also cannot be used by different automatic groups.
If a matching product is missing, check its current group and the rule before you change the Shopify catalog.
Edit a group
Open Settings > Product Groups and select Edit for the group.
- To rename the group, change Group Name and select Save Changes.
- In a manual group, search for a product to add it, or use the remove control beside an existing member.
- In an automatic group, change the selected tag, category, or collection and select Save Changes.
Adding or removing a product in an existing manual group takes effect immediately. Save Changes saves the group name and automatic rule.
Reviewbird recalculates the ratings and review counts affected by membership changes. Published reviews from the grouped products and their variants contribute to the shared display.
Change how a group is filled
To turn a manual group into an automatic group, first remove its manually selected products. Then select one tag, category, or collection under Fill this group automatically and select Save Changes.
To turn an automatic group into a manual group, clear its selected rule and select Save Changes. Existing members stay in the group. You can then add or remove products manually.
Delete a group
- Open Settings > Product Groups.
- Select Delete for the group.
- Confirm with Delete Group.
Deleting a group does not delete its products or reviews. Reviewbird removes the group membership and updates the affected ratings in the background. The products then stop sharing reviews through that group.
