Reviewbird for Shopify

Discount incentives for Shopify reviews

Reward approved reviews with a Shopify discount code, including discounts based on an existing code.

Thank customers for their reviews with a discount on their next purchase. Reviewbird creates a Shopify discount code after an eligible review is approved, then schedules the email containing the code.

Discount incentives require Plus or Everything. Open Reviewbird in Shopify admin, select Settings, then choose Incentives under Reviews.

Choose which reviews receive a discount

  1. Select Enable discount incentives.
  2. Under When to offer discount, choose Any review or Reviews with photos/videos only.
  3. Configure the discount and widget message below, then select Save incentive settings.

Both options require an approved review. For a media incentive, the upload must be complete; the customer can add it before or after approval. Imported reviews do not qualify, and Reviewbird does not generate a second code for a review that already has one.

The available qualification rules do not depend on the star rating.

Set a percentage or fixed discount

Leave Use an existing Shopify discount as a template off to create a simple discount.

  1. Choose Percentage (%) or Fixed amount under Discount type.
  2. Enter the discount value. Fixed amounts use your store's currency.
  3. Set Coupon valid for (days) from 1 to 365.
  4. Select Save incentive settings.

Reviewbird creates a code that applies to all products and can be used once in total. The expiry starts when the code is created. The default settings are 10% off and 30 days.

Use an existing Shopify discount as a template

Use a template when the discount needs rules such as a minimum purchase or selected products.

  1. Create the discount code in Shopify's Discounts section.
  2. In Reviewbird's Incentives settings, select Use an existing Shopify discount as a template.
  3. Enter its exact code under Template discount code.
  4. Enter a clear description under Display amount, such as 10% or $5 off orders of $50 or more.
  5. Set Coupon valid for (days), then select Save incentive settings.

Supported templates are Shopify discount codes for amount off, Buy X Get Y, and free shipping. Automatic discounts and discounts created by apps with their own discount functions are not supported templates.

Reviewbird copies the supported purchase, product or collection, shipping, and discount-combination rules for that discount type. Each generated code has its own start date, your configured expiry, and a total usage limit of one.

Generated codes are eligible for all customers; customer or customer-segment restrictions on the template are not carried over. The code is sent to the reviewer, but it is not restricted to that reviewer's Shopify customer account.

Display amount only describes the offer in the email and widget. It does not change Shopify's discount rules. Keep it consistent with the template.

Edit the widget message

Under Incentive message (shown in widget), describe the offer customers will receive. Use {amount} to insert the configured value. For example:

Get {amount} off your next purchase!

Check the preview, then select Save incentive settings. If you use a template, {amount} uses the Display amount text.

Edit the discount email

Select Configure discount email template, or open Settings > Customer Notifications > Discount. Edit the message and check the preview, including the coupon and expiry information, then save your changes.

Use Branding to change the logo, colors, and email design.

Troubleshooting

Why did a customer not receive a code?

Check that incentives are enabled, your plan includes them, and the review is approved. An imported review does not qualify. With a media incentive, wait for the photo or video to finish uploading.

Check Scheduled Emails for the discount email and Email Settings > Email Blocklist for the recipient. If you use a template, confirm that the code still exists in Shopify and uses a supported discount type. Contact Support in Reviewbird if code creation failed.

Why does the code not apply at checkout?

Check the generated discount in Shopify's Discounts section. Confirm that it has not expired or already been used, and that the cart meets any product, collection, minimum-purchase, shipping, or combination rules copied from the template.

Will changing the settings update codes already created?

No. Changes apply to codes created afterward. Reviewbird does not rewrite discounts already created in Shopify.
